Functional and Affirming Speech Pathology Practices

Next week, I'll be presenting Session 1 of an online workshop to over 40 Speech-Language-Pathologists!

The topic is providing functional and affirming therapy to children, adolescents (and adults), which is an area of practice that many SLPs feel passionate about, but don't always know where to begin.


In my workshop, I am planning to discuss key principles that can underpin the way we approach client-centred practice, including goal setting, therapy activities, and structuring our speech pathology sessions.


This made me reflect on the various clients over the years, and how I've always strived to individualise my goals and therapy for each person - and link what I'm doing to the existing research on the relevant area of practice as well.
